If some sources from IGN, Eurogamer, and Wall Street Journal are to be believed; Nintendo’s next “console” might end up being the next step from the Wii-u. Sources claim that the NX will actually be more akin to a handled that works like a console; and appears to be powered by Nvidia’s Tegra X1 chip.
This of course, would mean that earlier reports of the system going toe-to-toe with the Playstation Neo and Xbox Scoprio systems are effectively out the window in terms of graphical performance. Other rumors also state that the NX may also be another motion-control reliant system too, much to the chagrin of people who just want to play a high resolution Nintendo game with a standard controller.
As far as some other rumors go, we may also be looking at a dual-stick controller design, something like an untethered version of the wiimote & analogue stick. Another candidate is an oval controller with that appears to be a monitor with two controls slapped right on top of it.
Something that’s also likely is the console will return to cartridge based games, which something retro-oriented gamers may like; though no word yet on if people can just opt for digital-only versions as well.
As usual, we’ll have to wait and see for firm confirmation by Nintendo themselves.
