Ubisoft has confirmed that the upcoming Rocksmith update, now a subscription service called Rocksmith+, will finally be coming out on September 6th, 2022, but only for PC at this time.
Developed by Ubisoft San Francisco, Rocksmith is a Guitar learning education game that started back in 2011, it later got an updated version under Rocksmith 2014. The game allowed you to plug your guitar to your console or PC and learn to play real songs, it also offered training exercises to learn various tricks and chords, as well as the Riff Repeater, which allowed you to play specific parts of a song to help master hard riffs.
Unlike other musical based games (like Ubisoft’s own Just Dance) the series didn’t need constant iterations and survived thanks to its community and its wide variety of DLC. Rocksmith+ is removing the need for the DLC by moving to an online subscription service. According to Ubisoft, Rocksmith+ will include over 5,000 songs at launch with new songs being added every week across a variety of genres.
Rocksmith+ will be priced at $14.99 for a 1-month subscription, $39.99 for a 3-month subscription, and $99.99 for a 12-month subscription. For those who have played Rocksmith 2014, you’ll be able to get additional time on your subscription for an extra month for the 3-month subscription, and an extra 3-months with your 12-month plan.
I’ve been a big fan of Rocksmith since it’s first iteration and had taken the developer’s 60 hour challenge, which you can read about my experience here. It’ll be interesting to see if the subscription service will deliver how on the everything that made the originals great, and despite the large price-tag, it does feel less than buying the DLC separately, I can say I have spent over a Year’s subscription on DLC alone.
