Psyonix’s Rocket League is the second game on PS4 to be thrown into Cross-Platform play, allowing players to go up against PS4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch.
The game was added to the PS4’s Cross-Play beta program, an initiative that launched in September thanks to an outcry of Fortnite players after players were not able to retrieve their profiles on the Nintendo Switch when the game launched on the platform.
Psyonix confirmed that the Cross-Platform play is enabled and all of Rocket League’s online match types, including casual, competitive, and extra modes. There is still some work that needs to be done for the title, Psyonix advised that they have plans to release cross-platform party support as part of Rocket League’s first update for 2019, with more details to come.
Cross-Platform play on PS4 has been a long-standing player request for Rocket League as other platforms had supported this from their release, however Sony held out on bringing cross-platform play to the PS4 until the fall. Psyonix has been working with Sony since the program started to get the game up to standards.
