One of the games we’re most excited for in the 2021 year is Capcom’s Resident Evil Village, a direct follow-up to Resident Evil 7 biohazard, which thanks to it’s refocusing on horror and a new first-person perspective, helped bring some life back into the franchise – no pun intended. Capcom premiered the first gameplay footage from Village yesterday and immediately fans started receiving Resident Evil 4 vibes, from its new location, new non-zombie enemies, and a heavier focus on combat that still didn’t take away from the horror aspect of the game.
From what we know of Village, we’re thrown back into the shoes of Resident Evil 7’s protagonist Ethan Winters as he searches an old village in search of his missing daughter who appears to have been kidnapped by Resident Evil veteran Chris Redfield. Ethan will be taking on a new set of monsters in the form of werewolves and vampires including a giant Vampire mom named Lady Dimitrescu and her daughters. There is no word on how Lady Dimitrescu or the werewolves will be attached to Umbrella as all things terrifying in the Resident Evil world but seeing their logo pop-up in the trailer definitely hints at their involvement.
Capcom has confirmed that Resident Evil Village will include the return of the Resident Evil 4 style inventory and that Ethan will have access to multiple weapons like pistols, shotguns, and rifles, as well as the return of the Merchant – this time named The Duke – who will be able to sell weapons and other supplies.
Playstation 5 owners can get a small taste at what to expect in the next entry as Capcom has released an exclusive playable demo called Maiden. Maiden features a new playable character and takes place before the events of Village, which will task players with escaping Castle Dimitrescu’s dungeon and its castle. The demo won’t feature any combat but will give you an idea of how Village will look on the PS5 with ray racing and 3D audio effects active. The Demo will be available on all platforms later this spring.
You may recall that Capcom had done a similar promotion for Resident Evil 7 biohazard with the Kitchen demo, which was a PlayStation VR exclusive before releasing another demo called “Beginning Hour”.
Resident Evil Village is set for a worldwide release on May 7th, 2021 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Series X, and Windows PC.
