During an interview with IGN at the Tokyo Game Show, Capcom director Kento Kinoshita confirmed that the upcoming Resident Evil Village DLC will close out the Winters’ family story, wrapping it up in “Shadows of Rose.”
Shadows of Rose, part of the Winters’ Expansion releasing on October 28th, will take place 16 years after the events of Resident Evil Village and follow Rose Winters, the daughter of Resident Evil 7 and Village protagonist Ethan Winters, as she attempts to find out more about herself and the origins of her powers.
Rose’s story will be played out in third person and will have more of a psychological horror feel to it as she explores more about the mycorrhiza as it attempts to turn the world against her with scattered memories of humans it has consumed, and a hallucinatory figure called Michael helping her. Items will also be scarce allowing for more focus on Rose’s abilities to stun and evade enemies.
The Shadows of Rose won’t be the only thing coming with the Winters’ Expansion, as the game will also include a new third person view for the main game, and new content for the Mercenaries mode which adds Chris Redfield, Heisenberg and Lady Alcina Dimitrescu as playable characters. The multiplayer spin-off Resident Evil: Re:Verse will also be available with the package.
With the Winters’ story wrapping up with the upcoming DLC, it’s hard to tell where the franchise will go moving forward. Capcom seems to be happy looking back at the moment as Resident Evil 4 is next in line for a remake in the same veins of Resident Evil 2 and 3, which is set to release on March 24th 2023.
