While Resident Evil has had its hit and misses with Multiplayer games, the series 25th anniversary is prompting Capcom to try again with a new Resident Evil Multiplayer game – Resident Evil Re:Verse.
Releasing alongside Resident Evil Village and free to owners of the game, Re:Verse will pit characters from the Resident Evil universe against each other including Jill Valentine, Claire, and Chris Redfield, Leon S. Kenney, Nemesis, Ada Wong, and Jack Baker. Only one level appeared in the announcement which looked to be based on the Raccoon City Police Department from the Resident Evil 2 Remake. Aside from player-controlled characters, Re:Verse will also send in AI-Controlled monsters like the Hunter Gamma from Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 7’s Molded.
Unlike the recent RE Engine games which have provided an incredibly realistic look the Resident Evil games, Re:Verse will be using a stylized cel-shaded approach to differentiate itself. A close Beta will is currently planned on Jan. 28th for Ps4 and Xbox One players which applications are currently open.
Resident Evil’s history with Multiplayer, as mentioned, is a mixed bag. The series started the experiment with the PS2 title Resident Evil Outbreak and its sequel Outbreak File 2, which were beloved entries in the series. Resident Evil 5 introduced two-player co-op which also continued through Resident Evil 6. While the main series moved back to a single-player style, three spin-off games were released including Operation Raccoon City, Umbrella Corps, and Resident Evil Resistance, which did not fare well with fans.
Resident Evil Re:Verse will be available for free to owners of Resident Evil Village when it releases on May 7th, 2021 n PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Series X, and Windows PC.
