While Resident Evil 7 was the game to play on the Playstation VR system, Oculus’ new Quest 2 is about to blow that out of the water with Resident Evil 4 VR, which is set to launch on October 21st.
The new VR take on the Resident Evil classic provides a whole new way to experience it by presenting Leon’s European adventure in First Person view and gives players an unprecedented amount of control as they fight the Las Plagas.
The game supports full-motion and teleportation travel and allows players to directly interact with items and the environment. Players can grab items from their own body, such as the gun from their belt, knife from Leon’s chest holster, or health packs from their arm. Players will also be able to reload by pulling ammo from their pouch and load it. Puzzles and Typewriter save spots can also be interacted with, and the game’s inventory allows players to move everything around physically.
Not everything is in full VR mode though, as cutscenes are presented on a theater screen, and actions like climbing or jumping are done in third person, which may pull you out of the immersion but considering how many times Leon flips through a broken window, it’s probably for the best to avoid motion sickness.
Resident Evil 4 VR was revealed back in April during Facebook’s Oculus event and was definitely the highlight of the show. A remake of the game is said to be in the works at the moment however Capcom has not officially confirmed details outside of leaks.
