Quantum Break is developer Remedy’s latest creation, and one of the first games to be offered as cross-platform between the Xbox One and the PC. Further to that, if you order the game prior to April 5th, they offer the incentive of including a copy of Alan Wake and it’s DLC’s for the X1.
There had been some confusion however, regarding the recommended specs for the PC version of the game, which Remedy has since adjusted on their website for clarification. It seemed as if the game needed some serious hardware to run at all, however it turned out that it was just for the ‘Ultra’ graphical settings. The game will still need some decent gear to run, and that you are upgraded to Windows 10.
Here are the listed Minimum and Recommended specs:
Minimum
- OS: Windows 10 (64-bit)
- DirectX: DirectX 12
- CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 (2.7GHz) or AMD FX-6300
- GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 or AMD Radeon R7 260X
- VRAM: 2GB
- RAM: 8GB
Recommended
- OS: Windows 10 (64-bit)
- DirectX: DirectX 12
- CPU: Intel Core i5-4690 (3.9GHz) or AMD equivalent
- GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 or AMD Radeon R9 390
- VRAM: 4GB
- RAM: 16GB
Ultra
- OS: Windows 10 (64-bit)
- DirectX: DirectX 12
- CPU: Intel Core i7-4790(4GHz) or AMD equivalent
- GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 Ti or AMD Radeon R9 Fury X
- VRAM: 6GB
- RAM: 16GB
As you can see, the ultra setting will need some serious horsepower to show off what the game’s capable of; though even the minimum settings also show you can’t really get away with something older than a few years old as that would predate the hardware needed.
Many people seem to be recommending getting the game and holding off on the PC version until the new GPU architectures come out later this year to get the most bang for the buck. It’ll be interesting to see if more AAA games will adopt this level of minimum hardware spec; as it could very well be seen as a remedy (pun intended) to a slumping PC market.
