Borderlands: The Handsome Collection, the Remastered version of Borderlands 2 and The Pre-Sequel, launched yesterday and while 2K has yet to deliver the numbers, it seems to be selling well. But it feels like there is something missing…
Like the lack of the 2009 shooter that started it all, Borderlands 1.
Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford stated on the Major Nelson Radio podcast show, that it may be possible for Borderlands 1 to make the next gen jump as well depending on Borderlands: Handsome Collection success.
“The fact that The Handsome Collection has Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and Borderlands 2 means there’s still that original game that isn’t on next-gen yet,” Pitchford said. “If this is successful, I’m sure the folks at 2K, the people that care about publishing and figure out how to get content in customers’ hands if customers want it, will be noticing that. And I’d love to have those conversations about how to bring Borderlands 1 to next-gen.”
There is one potential problem though, Pitchford mentioned that Borderlands 1 uses a different engine then the games found in the Handsome Collection, making it more difficult to convert it to the PS4 and Xbox One without “some work involved.” However Gearbox could overcome these problems according to Pitchford.
“If [The Handsome Collection] is successful enough, there might be a way to justify that,” Pitchford said. “And I really hope that’s the case. I’d love to have my entire Borderlands collection on next-gen.”
What is your take on this? Would you like to see a Borderlands 1 remastered edition?
