Three of Quantic Dream’s most successful titles including Detroit: Become Human, Beyond: Two Souls and Heavy Rain, are making their way to PC with the help of Epic Games.
The companies announced the new partnership to port the games to PC with a release window of “later this year” and will be sold exclusively via the Epic Games Store for one year. While the company has stated that it had “partnered with” Epic to bring the games to PC, it is unclear if Epic is funding the development of the PC versions, or paided for the Timed Exclusive arrangement.
While it may be a little strange, as Quantic Dream had always been associated with Sony, it seems the long-running exclusive partnership had come to an end. In January, the studio took an investment from Chinese Internet company NetEase for a minority stake in the studio, with executives stating that they would take their future projects to multiple platforms.
“We are so grateful for twelve fantastic years of collaboration with Sony Interactive Entertainment and all they have allowed us to create and produce,” said Quantic Dream co-CEO Guillaume de Fondaumière. “With this new partnership with Epic, we can now expand our products to a wider fan base and allow PC players to enjoy our titles.”
Quantic Dream was founded in 1997 by David Cage, who directs the studio’s games and serves as co-CEO. The studio has a reputation for creating cinematic adventure games, sometimes dabbing into the science fiction genre. The studio’s first game was 1999’s Omikron: the Nomad Soul which was followed by 2005’s Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy. The studio then made a deal with Sony to create Heavy Rain, Beyond and Detroit.
