The Playstation 4’s latest 3.50 update now introduces the ability to stream your gameplay from the console to your computer; similar to what the Xbox One can do. Once installed on your console, you will need to download the Remote Play installer to your computer.
According to the Playstation.com site:
Remote Play on PC / Mac is compatible with the following system software:
- Windows 8.1
- Windows 10 or later
- OS X 10.10
- OS X 10.11
You’ll be able to select from the following resolution and frame rate options, depending on your Internet bandwidth.
- Resolution options: 360p, 540p, 720p (Default: 540p)
- Frame rate : Standard (30fps), High (60fps) (Default: Standard)
You can use one DualShock 4 as the controller for Remote Play, which needs to be connected to your PC / Mac via a USB cable.
Reports do suggest that full 1080p resolution will be added at a future date. (The Xbox equivalent of this did not support full 1080p at launch either.) Also, this also brings up that the Dualshock 4 controllers will finally have first party drivers available.
Other additions to this update are:
- The ability to schedule events and gameplay sessions with friends
- “Appear Offline” mode to your status options
- Set notifications for when specific friends come online rather than just anyone or no-one.
