You know what I like about Summer, aside from nice weather, ladies in skimpy clothing and swimming, that would be Microsoft Summer of Arcade, the Xbox sale of brand new, amazing games.
It feels like this year, even though Baston, From Dust, and Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet looks amazing, the titles seem, well bland. That’s were Sony steps, seeing the success of the Summer of Arcade, they released Playstation Play, a service exactly like Summer of Arcade, only for PSN titles that you would actually want to play.
Playstation Play includes the following titles:
Street Fighter III Third Strike Online Edition which will be available on August 23 for $15
The latest DeathSpank adventure The Baconing available August 30 for $15
The impressive BloodRayne: Betrayal, available for $15 on September 16
Avalanche’s Renegade Ops, available on September 15 for $15.
If you purchase all 4 games, you will get a voucher code for Sony’s Payday: the Heist, a multiplayer Bank robbery game, for free when the game comes out, a bonus concidering that the game looks great, and Sony wants to charge $20 dollars for it.
Now as much as this looks like the Summer of Arcade deal itself but there are some small differences.
*You can pre-order titles; each pre-order nets you a free PS3 theme
*”PLAY also offers gamers a separate gift with purchase for each order made throughout the duration of the program” – These mostly take the form of free in-game goodies, like a DLC fighter for Street Fighter III, a bonus co-op character for The Baconing, a PlayStation Home tchotchke for Bloodrayne: Betrayal, and some extra vehicles and weapons for Renegade Ops
* PlayStation Plus subscribers get “an automatic 20% off every PLAY program purchase”
* One final difference, which is a big one, unlike Summer of Arcade, it doesn’t appear any of these titles, short of Sony’s own Payday: The Heist, have any exclusivity, probably the only downer, but hey if your planning on picking up these games anyways, might as well get something free out of it.
