Persona 5’s Joker is finally ready to join the cast of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as part of the game’s first Challenger Pack DLC fighter, becoming available today (April 17 2019). He won’t be the only thing coming to the popular platforming fighter as Nintendo will also bring the Version 3.0 update as well.
Nintendo announced Joker’s release by detailing his movesets and some of the additional features. Joker will come equipped with his trademark knife and gun providing quick slashes and keeping players back with some cool trickshots, he’ll also be using the curse-type skill Eiha which will provide a small amount of damage overtime. However it’s Joker’s Rebel’s Guard defense that steals the show which deflects damage and builds his Rebellion Gauge, once the gauge is full Joker can summon his Persona, Arsene. With his Persona summoned, Joker’s skills are upgraded and can provide more damage.
Joker’s Final Smash is the All-Out Attack. Like in the Persona Series, All-Out Attack will summon some of the Phantom Thieves to attack all of those who were hit by the special.
The First Challenger Pack will also bring in a new Persona-themed stage called Mementos. Mementos is designed to change as the match goes on with new platforms, runaway subways, and walls coming into play. It will also change depending on the music that is being played during battle – as the Challenger pack will include additional songs from Persona 3, 4 and 5 – and will reflect the colour schemesĀ of each game.
There is plenty of free stuff coming as well, including the previously leaked Stage Builder, which will allow players to freely draw stage platforms using the Switch’s Touchscrean in handheld mode. There is also a new Video Editor which will allow players to take their favourite clips and share them online.
Joker is available as an individual download for $5.99 USD, or as part of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighter Pass which will include 5 different bundles – including a Fighter, Stage and Music – for $24.99 USD
