The beloved classics Panzer Dragoon and Panzer Dragoon 2 Zwei are getting the remake treatment thanks to Polish publisher Forever Entertainment, with the first releasing sometime in 2019 as Panzer Dragoon: Remake.
Forever Entertainment released an official announcement yesterday calling the games “refreshed versions” of the Panzer Dragoon games, and promises “completely new graphics compatible with today’s standards and several modifications of the game, making it more attractive to modern players, while remaining faithful to the original in terms of story.”
No platforms or other details about the upcoming remakes have been confirmed at this time, however strangely Sega has advised that they are not involved in the project. While this is strange, it’s not completely out of the ordinary as a number of Sega-owned properties like Shenmue and Streets of Rage are also receiving new games with little involvement from Sega.
For those unfamiliar with the franchise, Panzer Dragoon was a rail shooter released on the Sega Saturn in 1995 and 1996. It saw some follow-ups and spin-offs including Panzer Dragoon Saga for the Saturn, Panzer Dragoon Mini for Game Gear and Panzer Dragoon Orta on the Xbox. Series creator Yukio Futatsugi released a spiritual successor called Crimson Dragon for Xbox One in 2013, which received plenty of praise from fans and critics.
