The first seasonal event ever held in Overwatch is returning next week! Blizzard confirmed that the Summer Games will return on August 8th and will bring back the much loved Lucioball (think Rocket League only with Lucio as the playable character) as well as new skins and a second chance to items that were available last year!
There is some changes coming to Lucioball this year, as Blizzard has confirmed a new map, Sydney, alongside the returning Rio stadium, and several changes to the game. Of those changes the biggest one is Lucio’s ability to “boop” enemies with Lucio’s Soundwave attack and how his ultimate will work in the game. The Ultimate will no longer pull the ball towards the player, instead increases Lucio’s speed. There will also be a competitive ranked mode added for Lucioball as well.
While the Summer Games 2017 will include a variety of new cosmetics, for players who missed out on the skins, sprays and emotes last year, they will be able to earn those via credits or loot boxes. Blizzard gave a quick rundown of how much the loot will cost:
New 2017 Summer Games Cosmetic Items will cost the following:
Legendary Skins will cost 3,000 credits
Epic Skins will cost 750 credits
Rare tier will cost 225 credits
Common tier will cost 75 credits
Previous Summer Games cosmetics will be available at a reduced cost:
Legendary Skins will cost 1,000 credits
Epic Skins will cost 250 credits
Rare tier will cost 75 credits
The games will run between Aug. 8th-29th on PS4, PC and Xbox One. Check out Overwatch game director Jeff Kapian talking about the Summer Games in the latest developer update video below:
