It may be some time before we get our hands on the next big update for Blizzard’s Hero Shooter and RPG as Activision Blizzard has stated in an Earnings call that neither Overwatch 2 or Diablo 4 are expected to launch in 2021, with no release window given. The publisher reported in a news release that they did make “significant progress” on its in-development titles for “other key intellectual properties” which is expected to “fuel further growth in 2022 and beyond.”
Executives on the call have confirmed another remaster is in the works, which rumors are pointing to a remaster of Diablo 2 which was reportedly in development.
Both Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 were announced at BlizzCon 2019, with Blizzard releasing little details about the two games, with the exception that Overwatch 2 would introduce remodeled heroes and a PvE story mode with a reassembled Overwatch team. While Diablo 4 had been in development for a while with game director Luis Barriga stating that it will “take the series back to its roots”
Overwatch 2 is currently expected to launch on Ps4, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One (but is very likely to be coming to PS5 and Series X), while Diablo 4 is only confirmed for PC at this time.
