The team behind the stellar Payday series, Overkill software and Starbreeze Studios, will be working along side Skybound and Robert Kirkman to produce a new Walking Dead shooter. Robert Kirkman, the creator of The Walking Dead Comic series and CEO of Skybound, stated that Overkill’s new take on the series will be the “co-op game that all of the Walking Dead fans have been waiting for” in a Payday 2 community forum.
Andersson Klint, CEO of Starbreeze Studios, stated the developer “will bring The Walking Dead into the world of first-person shooter co-op games,” and that it will be “gameplay focused, ferocious and bring chaos to the traditional industry model.” The game will be powered by Starbreeze’s Diesel engine which has been “updated for next-gen” and is expected to launch some time in 2016.
While many will remember the bad taste that The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct left in it’s sweat filled escape from the undead, we wonder if the series can be anything but a well made point-and-click title that has won multiple awards. However if there is a team that might be able to make a co-op survival horror work, it would be the team at Overkill.
