Now that indie studio Red Barrels has brought the horrors of Mount Massive Asylum in Outlast and it’s Whistleblower DLC to PS4 and Xbox One (also winning our Horror game of the year last year for the PC/PS4 version.) Red Barrels has to look to the future.
“After shipping the Xbox One version of Outlast, we took some time to analyze our situation and we quickly realized we had at least another horror game in us,” said Red Barrels co-founder Philippe Morin in an interview with Bloody Disgusting. “So, yes, we are working on Outlast 2.”
With the confirmation that Outlast 2 is on it’s way, we have to ask what will be different, continuing the interview Philippe said, “The game will be a survival horror experience and it will take place in the same universe as Outlast, but it will have different characters and a different setting,” later adding “we have new ideas and themes we’d like to explore and we think we’re cooking up something special.”
While we don’t have a release date or platform for the upcoming sequel at the moment, the 12 people crew at Red Barrels are hard at work on the title and hopefully we’ll be hearing more from the studio soon.
