As promised at E3 this year, The Xbox One will be receiving Original Xbox games via backwards compatibility. Despite the announcement receiving plenty of love at the show, Microsoft was very quite about when the Originals would launch.
That is until now when Microsoft announced that the Originals will be available Today, October 24th! Microsoft also announced that 13 originals will be coming with the launch including the two we already knew – Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge and Fuzion Frenzy – and other classics including Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, Black and Ninja Gaiden Black.
Here is the full list of the 13 original Xbox titles you can play on your Xbox One!
Black
BloodRayne 2
Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge
Dead to Rights
Fuzion Frenzy
Grabbed by the Ghoulies
The King of Fighters Neowave
Ninja Gaiden Black
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Psychonauts
Red Faction II
Sid Meier’s Pirates
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Just like the 360 games, if you have the physical disc you can pop it into the system, or you can play using a digital version from the Xbox Store. Online multiplayer is not available for these titles given that the original support ended in 2010, as well as Achievements as they were not included in the original versions. However, according to IGN (http://www.ign.com/articles/2017/10/23/first-13-original-xbox-games-announced-for-xbox-one-compatibility), the backwards compatibility does support 1080p, higher or more stable framerates and faster load times.
Hopefully these 13 originals will be able to hold you over for the time being as the Originals list for backwards compatibility will be on a different time table than the 360 games, with the next batch of titles set to arrive sometime in Spring 2018.
Xbox Boss Phil Spencer also recently teased that Xbox One X owners may receive some sort of special backwards compatibility support with the new console, stating: “There’s some stuff we’re going to talk about in that space in terms of how compatibility’s going to work on [Xbox One] X specifically that I think people will find pretty interesting.”
