With Far Cry 6 only a week away, Ubisoft’s Team Lead Programmer Stephanie Brenham has confirmed one graphical feature for the upcoming open-world shooter will be exclusive to the PC version of the game – Ray tracing.
“Ray Tracing is a PC-only feature. On console, our objective has been to take advantage of new hardware capabilities, optimizing performance targeting 4K and achieving 60fps, for instance, all while ensuring that the experience on the previous generation of consoles would remain consistent,” said Ubisoft in a statement to TechRadar.
The PC version will also use AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution, which will allow players to use ray tracing at higher resolutions without sacrificing framerates.
While the newer console versions of the game may be lacking in some of the graphical options due to Ubisoft holding back for last-gen, it still sounds like the best place to play if you don’t have a strong enough PC as it will still have a better level of detail, draw distance and HD textures. It’s also important to note that other games that offer a new and last-gen version have used ray tracing on the newer consoles such as Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Doom Eternal.
Far Cry 6 is set to launch on October 7th for PC, PS4, PS5, Series X|S, Xbox One, Google Stadia, and Amazon Luna.
