During tonight’s Switch event, Nintendo gave the first details on the upcoming console including a Price, Battery life, how the controllers work and more importantly, the launch titles and games Nintendo has confirmed for the year.
Of course the big new of the night included the Switch’s release date and price, which Nintendo confirmed that console will launch on March 3rd 2017 at $299 USD or $399 CAD. The surprising news on the game is Nintendo’s “Switch” on their region locking, as Nintendo did confirm that the console will be region free, allowing players to enjoy games released from globally.
Details about the Switch’s new controller system, the Joycon, included a new feature that Nintendo called “HD Rumble” which promises to provide precise feedback to players. The controller will also feature IR Motion sensors which is able to tell distance, shape and sizes. The controllers also features a Share Button which at launch will allow players to share images via social media with the promise of videos coming later, however whether that means broadcasting abilities through Youtube or Twitch remains as an unknown at the time of this writing.
Nintendo confirmed the battery life of the Switch, stating that while it depends on the game in question, it is looking at a 2.5 to 6.5 hour battery life when not attached to the Dock. The console doesn’t need the dock to charge though, as it can be charged by a simple USB-C charger for those times when you’re going mobile with the console.
Finally we had confirmation of the launch titles. Nintendo has confirmed 4 titles for launch including the high profile Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Skylanders Imaginators, the Switch exclusive party game “One Two Switch” and Ubisoft’s Just Dance 2017. Meanwhile Skyrim Remastered, Super Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2, Lego City Undercover and Super Bomberman R are all set for a 2017 launch window.
