Dumpster fire is a kind word that describes the Activision Blizzard situation as many companies have gone back to review their relationship with the company after several lawsuits, reports of toxic workplace culture and gender discrimination came to light.
The latest of these groups includes the Lego Group who originally was set to release a new set based on Overwatch 2. According to a statement from the company posted by The Brick Fan, Lego had said the decision to push back due to how Activision Blizzard has handled the allegations.
Lego’s full statement was released on Tuesday:
We are currently reviewing our partnership with Activision Blizzard, given concerns about the progress being made to address continuing allegations regarding workplace culture, especially the treatment of female colleagues and creating a diverse and inclusive environment. While we complete the review, we will pause the release of a LEGO Overwatch 2 product which was due to go on sale on February 1, 2022.
The Lego Overwatch 2 Titan set was announced in December and is based on the game’s announcement cinematic from BlizzCon 2019. The set features Lego Minifigures of Tracer and Mei battling an Omnic Titan. Lego and Blizzard had partnered on multiple sets since 2018 which also included a Lego-themed cosmetic for Bastion in the original Overwatch.
Activision Blizzard is currently facing multiple lawsuits and federal investigations over sexual harassment and assault at the publisher and its studios. The situation for Activision Blizzard has been steadily going downhill with multiple corporate sponsors distancing themselves from the publisher and its Overwatch esports league, as well as calls for its CEO – Bobby Kotick – to step down.
Overwatch 2 was announced in 2019 but has been put on an indefinite delay in November 2021. At the time Activision Blizzard said it was giving the development team “extra time to complete production and continue growing their creative resources to support the titles after launch,” while acknowledging the turmoil and turnover at Blizzard as contributing factors to the game’s longer development.
