While Angelina Jolie’s version of Tomb Raider was a great representation of the Lara Croft of the Playstation days, with the series reboot doing extremely well, it’s time to take another stab at the franchise on film. Entertainment Weekly released a new image of Lara Croft (played by Alicia Vikander) in celebration of the film recently finishing production.
Vikander talked to EW about taking on the icon role. “She has all the fierce, tough, curious, intelligent traits,” she said. “But we’ve stripped away all of her experience. She hasn’t gone on an adventure just yet. She thought she was a stuck up businessperson living in the modern youth culture of suburban London, but then this whole box of information. This is the beginning.
“I have mostly done dramas and indie films [so far], but I don’t know how many times I’ve watched big adventure films like Indiana Jones or The Mummy. I love to get embraced in all those big journeys, and to do an action role has always been a child’s dream of mine.”
The upcoming Tomb Raider reboot also stars Dominic West (300) as Lara’s father, Walton Goggins (The Hateful Eight) as the villain, and Daniel Wu (AMC’s Into the Badlands) as a ship captain who works with Lara on her adventure. The film is currently set to debut on March 18th 2018.
