If you’re looking for a fun way to get your kids into playing Tabletop RPGs with you, then why not have an adventure in the kid-friendly My Little Pony Universe. A Tabletop RPG based on the popular Hasbro property is being developed by River Horse Games with Shinobi 7 (A game company co-owned by Ninja Division and Seven Seas Publishing) will handle publishing in the USA and Canada.
Currently, three SKU’s are in development for a March 2017 release. A hardcover 152-full colour page rulebook. The Curse of the Statuettes Adventure Story Box Set; a boxed expansion including a 48-page full color adventure book, a gamemaster screen, a 6 polyhedron dice set, and 40 customizable character sheets. Finally, Tokens of Friendship, which will have 12 gemstones with a collector’s bag. After the game’s initial release, new content for Tales of Equestria will be released quarterly.
In an interview with ICv2, Ninja Division Partner and Sales and Marketing Director Deke Stella described the game is focused on the series audience while being accessible to all ages.
“one of our goals with it is to make it accessible to everybody. It really focuses in on friendship, cooperation, things like that. It’s a roleplaying game, but we’re using the term a storytelling game. It’s a light roleplaying mechanic.”
“It’s designed to very much be something that you can enjoy with your families so that any age demographic can enjoy it. There’s a lot of roleplaying games out there that are just a little bit too crunchy or their appeal is a little bit higher than what you might want to play with your kids.
River Horse very much wanted to focus in on the fun and adventure that the My Little Pony show has, so it’s very much targeting that same group.”
As a father who has a child watching My Little Pony, this sounds like a fun introduction to Tabletop RPG gaming, and knowing the series surprising lore, it might even be able to keep non-pony fans interested. We’ll have to see when the set comes out in March.
