With the popularity of Monster Hunter World, it’s no doubt a Monster Hunter film would be on its way, and given how much you may have enjoyed the Resident Evil films may have some indication on if this one is going to be right for you.
Resident Evil Director Paul W.S. Anderson is teaming up with Capcom once again to bring us the Monster Hunter film, and results are… varied. With early production photos show modern-day military with firearms, while Milla Jovovich wears a Slinger from Monster Hunter World. Given the state of nervousness this has left fans, we’re wondering what exactly are we going to see Jovovich and her team fight?
In an interview with /Film, Anderson touched on the monsters that would appear, advising that there will be no original creatures, instead opting for the ones that fans will be familiar with, but also stating that the focus would be more on Monster Hunter World.
“I don’t need to create any new monsters,” said Anderson. “There’s such a vast array of amazing creatures over the years. We’re leaning quite heavily on the favorite creatures from Monster Hunter World which is the latest game, but we’re also bringing in what I think are some of the fabulous monsters from some of the earlier games [as] well, and some of the imagery from the earlier games.”
Anderson also confirmed a host of characters from MHW will also be present. Also, Palicoes.
“There’s The Handler and Admiral, Aiden, Aiden’s Handler. We wanted Palico,” said Anderson. “It’s very much a movie of the video game, but in Monster Hunter you get to create your own character when you go in there. You don’t get to play Lara Croft or Jill Valentine. You get to play your own creation, and there is definitely an element of that in there. Some of the leading characters will be fresh characters but that’s a reflection of what the video game is.”
While no synopsis has been given for the film at this time, the photos suggest Anderson’s interview with Deadline in 2016, where he described Monster Hunter as his dream movie where an American is pulled into a parallel world infested with monsters, with the world eventually invading into ours.
There is currently no release date for the film at the moment, however a small cast of human characters including Milla Jovovich, T.I., Tony Jaa and Ron Pearlman was announced for the film.
