Stop waiting for Mods to come to Fallout 4 and the upcoming Skyrim Remastered to PS4 because according to Bethesda, Sony won’t allow it! The news broke early today sending the media into a frenzy that after months of working on being able to support Mods on the two massive RPGs that Sony will just not allow it.
The official statement comes from Bethesda’s community page where they state.
After months of discussion with Sony, we regret to say that while we have long been ready to offer mod support on PlayStation 4, Sony has informed us they will not approve user mods the way they should work: where users can do anything they want for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim Special Edition.
Like you, we are disappointed by Sony’s decision given the considerable time and effort we have put into this project, and the amount of time our fans have waited for mod support to arrive. We consider this an important initiative and we hope to find other ways user mods can be available for our PlayStation audience. However, until Sony will allow us to offer proper mod support for PS4, that content for Fallout 4 and Skyrim on PlayStation 4 will not be available.
Sony has yet to comment on the Mod availability at the moment, however we’ll keep you posted if there is any changes to the story.
While many gamers may be disappointed in Sony’s decision, this is also coming off a string of bad calls from Sony that is making us wonder what is happening at the major console provider. Earlier this week they announced the new PS4 model and the PS4Pro, while the consoles themselves were highlighting 4K resolution and HDR updates, the consoles will lack any support for 4K Blu-ray titles, focusing on 4K streaming instead.
This also comes shortly after announced price hike on the Playstation Plus services, which sees the service being increased by more than $20 in some regions, despite resent downtimes and reports of Xbox Live being the “Fastest, most reliable gaming network” via an independent study.
Of course this has given Sony’s biggest competitor, Microsoft, reason to Gloat. Starting off with mentioning that 4K Blu-Ray compatiblity is available as part of the Xbox One S, Microsoft’s new slimmer model. On top of this, Microsoft also implemented Backwards Compatibility and have been support mods for Fallout and the upcoming Skyrim since May.
Of course the Xbox Team hasn’t been shy to let us know this as well. As Larry Hryb – Xbox’s Major Nelson, Tweeted today after the news.
