Microsoft has started Monday’s E3 with a bang, demonstrating a lot of exclusive titles, plus some major announcements in regards to both the Xbox One and the new HoloLense. Here is a quick recap of the conference. (This post will be edited throughout the day as trailers, images and more information about the titles become readily available.)
HALO 5 GUARDIANS
Starting out the presentation, 343 Industries showed off the some of the first gameplay of Locke and Fireteam Osiris as they continued their hunt for Master Chief and Blue Team. The gameplay showed 4 player co-op with Locke being able to order commands to his squad as they took on the Covenant and the Prometheans who were already fighting. Multiplayer was also briefly shown with a 24 player multiplayer mode called Warzone.
KENJI INAFUNE AND METROID PRIME DEVELOPERS NEW GAME
A new Xbox One exclusive from Kenji Inafune’s Comcept, and ex-Metroid Prime developers Armature Studios called Recore was announced. The trailer showed off a dessert setting following a girl and her robotic dog as they get attached by mechanical spiders, the dog sacrifices itself, but core is replaced into a bigger, ape-like robot. Recore is dated for Spring 2016
XBOX ONE WILL BE BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE HOLIDAY 2015.
A major bomb drop (and slap to Sony’s face) was that the Xbox One will be backwards compatible with Xbox 360 titles. Players will be able to play 360 games natively on the Xbox One, including Multiplayer via gold with your 360 friends, along with the new Xbox One features including broadcasting, DVR and screen capture. Users can place their discs in the Xbox One and download the digital copy of the game for free. The games are limited to a list, however Microsoft did state that the list will increase over time. The update that will make this possible with hit Holiday of this year.
MORE FALLOUT 4 GAMEPLAY.
More Fallout 4 gameplay, this time we got a glimpse at one of the quest involving your new vault dweller taking on bandits in order to help liberate a small town. The mission continued until a new Power Armour was used to clear out the baddies, allowing a Deathclaw to interrupt the fight.
EA ACCESS TITANFALL AND DRAGON AGE COMING THIS SUMMER, PLANTS VS ZOMBIES GARDEN WARFARE 2
EA’s On demand service, EA Access, will be getting two major games added to its vault this summer, Titanfall and last year’s RPG of the year winner (and Game of the Year winner) Dragon Age Inquisition. The service will be unlocked for Gold members for a week. Peter Moore also announced Plants Vs Zombies Garden Warfare 2 with a new trailer.
FORZA 6
Forza 6 got a reveal trailer with a release date for September 15th this year, featuring 26 tracks, 24 car multiplayer and realistic crash mechanics.
DARK SOULS 3 TRAILER
Dark Souls 3 rumours were confirmed, with the game set for an Early 2016 release.
THE DIVISION AND RAINBOW SIX SIEGE
A new trailer for both Division and Rainbow Six was released showing a quick look at both titles. Ubisoft has confirmed that The Division will have an exclusive Xbox One Beta this Holiday and Rainbow Six Siege will include Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2 included with the Xbox One version.
INDIE SHOWCASE ID@XBOX, EARLY ACCESS.
Several games were shown for Xbox’s indie showcase including Gigantic, Tacoma, Ashen, Beyond Eys, and CupHead. Another new feature was shown called Xbox Game Preview, which works similar to Steam’s Early Access system, games available in this new service will include The Long Dark, Sheltered, Elite dangerous, Day Z, and Ion, a new space exploration game from the makers of Day Z.
RISE OF THE TOMB RAIDER NEW GAMEPLAY FOOTAGE, RELEASE DATE.
Rise of the Tomb Raider received a new gameplay trailer showing that Lara’s latest adventure will be just as dangerous as the last. Also a release date of November 10th 2015 as a timed exclusive for Xbox One.
RARE REPLAY!
Rare’s 30th anniversary is coming up so now is a great time to have their entire catalog (except for those own by Nintendo and Activision) available on the Xbox One. The collection, which features Battletoads, Conker’s Bad Fur Day, Jet Force Gemini, Banjo Kazooie series, Blast Corps, Killer Instinct Gold and much more will be available August 4th 2015 for $30.
On top of this a new MMO style Pirates game Sea of Thieves was also announced from Rare.
HOLOLENSE LETS YOU PLAY GOD! (IN MINECRAFT)
Microsoft’s Hololense is a cool device on its own, but thanks to a special presentation we got to see it in action with Minecraft. Hololense users can play the game via a portal on their wall, or move the game to a flat surface which brings the Minecraft world to life. Being able to move your enviroment to see everything above and below, and using voice commands to summon Pig Warriors are only a little bit of what the Hololense can do. As cool as it is, we’re still slightly skeptical and would like to see it in other games as well, preferably something of an RTS.
GEARS OF WAR ULTIMATE AND SEQUEL
We knew Gears of War Ultimate was going to be announced, and while sadly no gameplay was shown, a beta is available for the upcoming “HD Remake.” Meanwhile the first gameplay trailer for GEARS 4 was shown with new enemies, and new characters.
MORE TO COME!
We’re missing info from Quantium Break, Scalebound and Crackdown at the E3 conference, but this was expected. Gamescom will be the place to hear more about those titles.
