After some rumours about troubled development on Platinum Games’ Xbox One Exclusive title, Scalebound, Microsoft has set the record straight by advising that the game has been completely cancelled.
In an official statement, Microsoft wrote: “After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for Scalebound. We’re working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including Halo Wars 2, Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves and other great experiences.” Then proceeded to a link to their official site on the plans for 2017.
When asked if Scalebound was a Platinum Games or Microsoft owned IP, a Microsoft spokesperson said “we do not comment on the details of our business agreements with partners,” and provided no additional comment on the reasons the game was cancelled or if they would work with Platinum in the future.
This is a very frustrating cancellation as we all had high hopes for the Platinum Action RPG game which made its first appearance at E3 2015 and an even more impressive showing of a major boss battle at E3 2016. Platinum Games is currently hard at work for the release of Nier: Automata, which is currently set for a March 7th release date.
