While the series has never really seen the success in North America that it had in Japan, Level-5’s Yo-Kai Watch has a huge following with its 4th entry coming to the Nintendo Switch and will also see a western release. Since the Switch opens up a new market for the series, it makes sense for the original title to get a re-release.
Announced via Level-5’s Youtube series, the developers have confirmed that they will be bringing the original Yo-Kai Watch to the Switch on September 20th. The announcement did not confirm if the game will be an HD Remastered, a remake or a simple port of the 3DS version.
Yo-Kai Watch debuted in 2013 on the 3DS and seen three main sequels and a few spin-offs, as well as a TV series (later dubbed for Disney XD) and Movies, which release has even at one time beat out Star Wars. The series is similar to Pokemon in the way that you have to collect a variety of Yo-Kai, mischievous ghost-like creatures who are invisible to everyone but a Yo-Kai Watch wearer.
Hopefully the jump to the Switch will see the resurgence that the series needs to become popular in the west. Have you played the Yo-Kai Watch series, let us know what you think about the game.
