The last generation of consoles (the PS3 and Xbox 360) are reaching their final days, this is evident with Warner Bros. confirmation that the Mortal Kombat X PS3 and 360 version has been officially cancelled. The last gen versions had been delayed multiple times due to quality issues and the game not meeting the standards set by the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game.
Warner Bros Interactive confirmed the cancellation on the Community Forums which stated:
After months of development, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has come to the regrettable conclusion that we cannot release Mortal Kombat X for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Please know our teams worked diligently to meet the quality standards set by the current-gen versions of the game. We were not able to get the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions to the quality expected of a Mortal Kombat game and are very sorry for not being able to deliver the products as originally planned.
While NetherRealm was handling the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game, the last gen and PC ports were being done by High Voltage studios (who previous helped bring Injustice: Gods Among Us Gold Edition to PS4.)
While this isn’t the last high profile game for last gen, as the PS3 will be seeing Yakuza 5, Persona 5, Tales of Zestiria, and the 360 will also see a port of Rise of the Tomb Raider, MKX is definitely a major hit to the older consoles.
