Konami started the Silent Hill Transmission livestream strong with a teaser trailer giving us a proper first look at the remake of Silent Hill 2 coming to PC and PS5, being developed by Bloober Team – whose previous works include Layers of Fear, Observer, Blair Witch, and The Medium – along with two of the original team members, composer Akira Yamaoka and artist Masahiro Ito.
So far, the remake appears to be remaining very faithful to the original game, showcasing several famous scenes and locations getting a graphical overhaul. The trailer also provided us our first look at new voice over work, new music, and a new over-the-shoulder perspective.
Mateusz Lenart, creative director and lead designer at Bloober Team, said in a post on the PlayStation Blog that “one of our primary goals is to preserve the atmosphere that made Silent Hill 2 so exceptional, while also modernizing many aspects of the game’s overall gameplay.”
Silent Hill 2 was originally released in 2001 on PS2, and was later ported to Xbox and PC. Following James Sutherland, who heads to Silent Hill after receiving a letter from his dead wife informing him that she is waiting for him in the cursed town. Silent Hill 2 has been widely praised as the best of the series and a staple of the Horror genre thanks to its memorable story, music and monsters.
No release date for the remake has been confirmed at the moment. Konami has confirmed that the game will be a timed console exclusive for Playstation 5.
