We were all expecting this, but here we go.
Konami announced today at Gamescom the next rendition of the ever popular Metal Gear saga, which is a Zombie survival spin-off called Metal Gear Survive. This of course is the first Metal Gear game that will not have Hideo Kojima as part of the team or as an advisor in anyway.
“We are delighted to announce another exciting addition to the METAL GEAR franchise,” said Tomotada Tashiro, European President for Konami Digital Entertainment B.V. “METAL GEAR SURVIVE will offer a fresh take on the series’ famed stealth elements but within a unique co-op setting that is designed for a truly engrossing multi-player experience.”
The game takes place shortly after the ending of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, the prequel game to The Phantom Pain, and creates an alternate timeline where surviving members of MotherBase get thrown into wormhole to an unfamiliar land filled with crystallized Zombies.
To give Konami the benefit of the doubt, the game “could” be good, a zombie survival game with the controls of Metal Gear Solid V sounds like it would be pretty interesting, but it will be an uphill battle to win over fans by using a concept that has over saturated the market and being the first game since Kojima’s departure.
The game is slated for a 2017 release date for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
