For those of you expecting to see the Fox Engine power more than Soccer and the upcoming Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, will sadly have a while to wait. Despite earlier comments by Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima which stated that the engine could quite possibly be used for a First Person Shooter or possibly an upcoming Silent Hill entry (Editor’s note: This would be amazing.) Kojima had mentioned that it would take a massive amount of work in order to bring it out for use outside of the team.
“Right now it’s a bit too difficult,” Kojima said in a interview with Gamasutra. “While, yes, the engine has been shared around internally at Konami, a lot of maintenance will be involved if we’re to get the Fox Engine in a workable enough state to license it. At the moment there are no plans to license it to schools or other organizations.”
That doesn’t mean that they’re not interested though, continuing in the interview Kojima mentioned that he and Konami are willing to talk with potential Fox Engine licensees, but at the moment open licensing is “off the table.”
