One of the most beloved Star Wars and Bioware games ever is getting a remake that will be exclusive to the Playstation 5 and PC. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic will be developed by Aspyr Media and will be “completely rebuilt from the ground up” according to Aspyr as the development of the remake is being led by “a newly created team composed of industry veterans at developer and publisher Aspyr, working in close collaboration with Lucasfilm Games.”
Originally released in 2003 for the original Xbox, Knights of the Old Republic became a beloved RPG from Bioware pre-Mass Effect fame and focused on the events four thousand years prior to the Star Wars Films and gives a look to the rise of the Sith through Darth Revan.
Aspyr has worked on porting other classic Star Wars games to Switch, Playstation, and Xbox with titles like Star Wars: Republic Commando, Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast, Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, and Star Wars Episode I: Racer. While each game mentioned was mainly a direct port with some modern conveniences, the upcoming KotOR remake looks to be something more.
