After a successful re-release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning will be making a jump to the Nintendo Switch on March 16th as confirmed by THQ Nordic. The Nintendo Switch version will be similar to the already released remastered edition and will include the game’s three DLC’s: The Teeth of Naros, Legend of Dead Kel as well as the various Weapons and Armor bundles.
Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning, while being the only game in its franchise, has a long storied history in gaming. Developed by 38 Studios, founded in 2006 by MLB pitcher Curt Schilling, which took out a $75 million loan from the state of Rhode Island. The game promised a story from fame fantasy writer R. A. Salvatore, art from Spawn creator Todd McFarlane, and Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion’s lead designer Ken Rolston. While the game did well during its initial release, it didn’t make enough to cover the loan and 38 Studios went bankrupt soon after.
However, Kingdoms of Amalur did have a cult following thanks to the game’s fast-paced combat, deep lore, and according to critics, having “more content than any single-player game deserves.” THQ Nordic acquired the rights to the series from the game’s original publisher EA, and is currently working on a new expansion to the game called Fatesworn.
