The over-the-top cinematic gunfights of director John Woo was perfectly captured in 2007’s Stranglehold, a video game sequel to Woo’s Hard Boiled which originally released in 1992. The game was originally published by Midway and sadly disappeared around the time the publisher went under, but now the game has returned to digital distribution on PC thanks to GOG and Warner Bros.
Stranglehold stars Chow Yun-fat reprising his iconic role of inspector “Tequila” Yuen as he takes on a triad gang in both Hong Kong and Chicago. It recreates the movie’s signature gun-ballet by having interactive environments, allowing you to roll on carts, slide down rails, hang from wires/polls all while taking out a small army of criminals.
As with all releases on GOG.com, the game has been updated to work on modern PCs and is available DRM-free. You can pick up the game at 9.99 USD.
