The Assassin’s Creed movie just got a bit more star-studded with the announcement that Jeremy Irons and Brendan Gleeson will be joining Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard in the upcoming adaptation.
Irons is probably best known as the Scar in The Lion King and Simon Gruber in 1995’s Die Hard With A Vengeance (maybe less so for his role as Profion in the horrible Dungeons and Dragons movie.) He will be playing Fassbender’s father in the upcoming film. Meanwhile, Gleeson, who is best known for his roles in Edge of Tomorrow, Troy, Gangs of New York and Braveheart, will be playing Cotillard’s father.
The Assassin’s Creed movie is set to be in the same universe, but focused on a new main character named Callum Lynch, played by Fassbender. Ubisoft has also stated that the upcoming movie and comic books will have an effect on future titles in the game’s series, however we’re likely to hear more about the effects as the movie’s release comes closer.
The Assassin’s Creed movie is currently set for a December 21st 2016 release, while the latest title in the series, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, is set to launch later this month on October 23rd.
