Insomniac Games have been busy since being acquired by Sony and coming hot off the release of Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart as they announced two new games coming to the Playstation 5 including a return to the Spider-Man franchise and another well-known Marvel hero, Wolverine.
Announced at the Playstation Showcase on Thursday, Insomniac gave us a quick CG trailer for Wolverine by introducing a bar filled with people who got the crap beaten out of them, and a close-up of Wolverine’s adamantium claws.
“Wolverine continually came up as the character we’d be really stoked to work on together,” wrote Ryan Schneider of Insomniac Games in a post on the Playstation Blog.
The game is said to be a standalone game with Brian Horton serving as the creative director with Cameron Christian as the game director, who previously was the director behind Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Horton had gone on Twitter to answer some questions about the game with the biggest takeaway is that it will be a “full size” game with “Mature tones.”
Wolverine had always been a fan-favorite character who had lent his talents to teams including the X-Men, The Avengers, and many more. Outside of the upcoming game, we’ll also see Wolverine in Firaxis’s upcoming RPG Midnight Suns.
Moving on to the second reveal, Insomniac also gave us a trailer for Spider-Man 2, which highlighted Peter and Miles working together to take out some nasty looking assassins while a voice that many believe is Kraven the Hunter narrates and revealing that Venom will be a big part of the upcoming game.
Venom was hinted at hard during the epilogue of the original Spider-Man game. According to a post on the Playstation blog, he will be voiced by Tony Todd of Candyman fame, while both Yuri Lowenthal and Nadji Jeter will reprise their roles as Peter and Miles, respectively.
While there is no release date for Wolverine as of yet, Spider-Man 2 is currently set for a 2023 release date.
