During a special announcement at Gamescom on Wednesday, Guerrilla Games announced that their sequel to 2017’s Horizon Zero Dawn – Horizon Forbidden West – will now be releasing on February 18th, 2022 on Playstation 5 and Playstation 4.
Horizon Forbidden West was last seen in May with a 14-minute gameplay footage during the Sony’s State of Play. During that time, Guerrilla said the game had hit a major development milestone and was on track for 2021, but couldn’t lock down a concrete release date due to the ongoing pandemic.
“It’s no surprise that our teams were hugely impacted by the global pandemic; we have been adjusting to new workflows, protocols, and other challenges, while keeping our teams safe and prioritizing a healthy work/life balance,” game director Mathias de Jonge said during Wednesday’s Gamescom: Opening Night Live stream.
It’s not all bad news as fans wanting to go back through the original before the sequel launches will be getting a major upgrade when doing so on the Playstation 5. Guerrilla released a free patch for Horizon Zero Dawn that adds support for a targeted frame rate of 60 fps with 4K resolution via checkerboard rendering.
