Despite Sony finally giving in to Cross-Platform play with the Nintendo Swich and Xbox One, not every game that needs it, has it. As Fortnite finally opens up with account-merging, and Rocket League getting the full Cross-Platform play enabled, other games that could benefit from the feature like Smite, Paladins and Realm Royale are currently left waiting for Sony’s go-ahead.
There are several beneficial stats that we should know about how Cross-Platform does improve a game, according to Stew Chisam – CEO of Hi-Rez, who outlined the benefits on Twitter on Friday. Using Paladins as an example, which supports cross-play between Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, Chisam said that the overall match quality improved including a 30% cut to wait-times for matches, a better quality of matches as the level spread down 40%, and overall 80% reduction in what their team calls “bad” matches.
Xplay improves match quality in multiplayer games. When we added crossplay between Paladins Xbox and Switch:
>> Wait time reduced 30%
>> Level spread between players down 40%
>> 40% reduction in ELO std deviation per match
>> 80% reduction in “Bad” matches (by our internal defn)— HiRezStew (@schisam) February 8, 2019
In a separate post, Chisam posted on Twitter that he wants Sony to “stop playing favourites” and allow Cross-Play/Cross-Progression “for everyone” adding that Smite (which recently launched on the Nintendo Swich), Paladins, and Realm Royale (which also recently launched on PS4) are all “ready to go” for cross-play on PS4 once Sony gives them the approval.
Hey @Sony @PlayStation. It’s time to stop playing favorites and tear down the crossplay/progression wall for everyone. We have @SMITEGame, @PaladinsGame, @RealmRoyale ready to go when you are. https://t.co/KNDetpXPf5

There is definitely a delay from Sony when it comes to Cross-Platform as it seems like Sony is still struggling with the idea of letting Playstation players jump into games with other consoles. The feature is readily available, as both Epic games and Microsoft has pointed out, yet there are months between announcements that a team is working with Sony to enable the feature, and when it actually launches.
Hopefully we’ll see more from developers pushing to have Cross-Platform (and actually following through) in the near future so that this becomes a basic feature for all.
