Last month, Mission Impossible: Fallout and Superman actor Henry Cavill hinted that he would like to take on the role of Geralt of Rivia in the upcoming Netflix series based on The Witcher books. Netflix confirmed yesterday that Cavill will be their Witcher in the eight-part series.
Henry stated he was interested in the role during an interview with IGN when they talked about other projects he’d liked to be involved in, where he expressed his love for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. When asked about possibly playing Geralt in the adaptation he said “Yeah, that would be an amazing role.”
The show is being developed by Lauren S. Hissrich, whose previous work includes Netflix’s Daredevil, The Defenders and the upcoming Umbrella Academy based on the comic series by My Chemical Romance singer Gerald Way. The Show was announced in May however not expected to hit the service until 2020.
The Netflix and game series by CD Projekt Red are based on a series of fantasy novels by Andrzej Sapkoski, who is set to work on the series as a creative consultant. A Polish series based on The Witcher aired in 2002 and remained the only adaptation of the series for screen.
The last entry in the series, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, was released in 2015 to critical and commercial praise, and created a Free to Play spin-off card game, Gwent.
