GWENT – The card game which started as a mini-game in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, has done very well as a stand-alone product and CD Projekt Red is taking the extra steps to continue to make it great by adding a new story mode to the CCG as well as an eSports league.
The story mode, titled GWENT: Thronebreaker, will tell a new story in the Witcher universe. The story will focuse on Meve – a war-veteran queen of two Northern Realms. Facing a foreign invasion, Meve is forced to set out on a dark journey of destruction and revenge. The campaign will feature new, never before seen parts of The Witcher world, and engage in custom-made story battles which will twist the game’s rules in unexpected ways.
CD Projekt Red has also announced a new GWENT Masters tournament, the official eSports series for the CCG, which will invite players in a world-wide tournament. Tournaments are branched in three modes, Opens which consists of 8 tournaments with a $25,000 prize pool, Challengers which consists of 4 tournaments and a $100,000 prize pool, and the World Masters which has a $250,000 prize pool.
The first open starts during Gamescom this week. For more about the tournaments and how CD Projekt Red plans for the card game to take eSports by storm, check out http://masters.playgwent.com.
