Gamers everywhere can breath a sigh of relief, as your wish has finally been granted: gaming is healthy!
This is not to say that you should give up any pretense of a healthy lifestyle and eat what you want, drink alcohol all day and never exercise, as long as you plug in your Playstation. However, it does mean that the games that you play could actually be good for you, particularly for your brain and cognitive function.
For example, gaming can help your brain develop. This may seem like a contradiction, as most people see gamers as a little lacking in brains, and see gaming as something that would destroy brain cells. However, research has actually shown that gaming can improve your cognition. For example, it can strengthen the areas of your brain that are responsible for spatial awareness, motor skills, memory and long-term planning. Thus, you can actually become smarter through gaming. As well as this, gaming can also help you to get over trauma and pain after surgery, as has been shown by other studies.
Unfortunately for us gamers, gaming cannot make you more attractive, it cannot cure all disease, and it cannot cure world hunger. However, despite popular perception, gaming can actually improve your brain power, and can even help you in other ways, which makes those Friday night Street Fighter tournaments seem like a great idea.
