During Sony’s presentation on Thursday, Rockstar Games released a quick trailer to highlight their 2013 released Grand Theft Auto V will be coming to Next-Gen in March 2022.
Originally planned to release on November 11th, 2021 for Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, the “enhanced and expanded” editions would feature “a range of technical improvements, visual upgrades, and performance enhancements.” Of which, the only major new feature that was showed during the trailer was the instant character switching, which shorten the load time considerably from the previous versions.
“While we are extremely excited to be bringing GTAV to the latest generation of consoles, the game requires a few additional months for polishing and fine-tuning,” Rockstar said in a blog on the developer’s official site. “We look forward to sharing more details about these expanded and enhanced versions soon, including the new standalone version of GTA Online also coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in March.”
Grand Theft Auto V will also be taking a page from Rockstar’s own Red Dead series and release their online version as a stand-alone title, which will be free for the first 3 months after launch on PS5. GTA Online has recently stopped providing updates for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game adding cars and racing content that are exclusive to newer generations.
At this time, it’s hard to judge if it is worth diving into GTAV again as the major update is faster loading times (a feature that is still appreciated) especially if GTA Online will be available as a stand-alone. We’ll have to wait and see if there are any more upgrades that will make dipping into the game a third time worth it.
