Here at GameItAll, we’re huge fans of Fighting games, so this one was a bit of a challenge to pick from. Do we go with the ultra fast pace choice of Arc System Works Dragon Ball FighterZ? Or the insane amount of content for Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros Ultimate? Or maybe the fan service was enough to win some of us over with SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy? Here is our pick for the best fighting game of the year.
THE NOMINEES ARE:
Soulcalibur 6
Dragon Ball FighterZ
Super Smash Bros Ultimate
SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy
BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle
THE WINNER IS:
DRAGON BALL FIGHTERZ
The hype was real for us when we first saw Arc System Works working on a Dragonball fighting game and thankfully Arc brought us everything we expected from the title and more. With a great campaign, a solid online experience and gorgeous graphics which made it feel just like the Anime. This is the Dragonball game that fans have been waiting for.
Honorable Mention: Soulcalibur 6 and Super Smash Bros Ultimate
This is the first time we have to give two Honorable mentions because it was that close. Both Soulcalibur 6 and Smash Bros Ultimate did something that we wish more fighting games would do and that’s deliver on some high-quality content.
With Soulcalibur 6, we saw the character creation come back with full force alongside a full character campaign and a created character campaign that delivered a retelling of the series. Meanwhile Super Smash Bros Ultimate did everything we expected from a Smash Bros games and more, giving us a new story-mode and bringing back every existing fighter in the franchise, plus adding new characters. Both games made sure that we got our bang for our buck.
