We finally reach the end of our list and come to the Game of the Year. The crew thought long and hard about this one because there have been a lot of year-defining titles that we loved, like the already Game of the Year winning Sekrio – which taught us patience as we learned to parry and explored From Software’s amazing new world, or Kojima’s divisive Death Stranding which won us over with amazing performances, music and story. Then Devil May Cry 5 and Astral Chain came in to give us the fast-pace hack’n’slash gameplay we absolutely adore, while The Outer Worlds fixed the craving for an FPS-RPG that brought us to unique worlds, great gunplay and smart RPG mechanics. Here is our picks for Game Of the Year:
Sekiro: Shadows die Twice
The Outer Worlds
Astral Chain
Devil May Cry 5
Death Stranding
AND THE WINNER IS:
THE OUTER WORLDS (Obsidian Entertainment/Private Division)
When we first saw The Outer Worlds, our minds immediately thought of Fallout. This makes sense as the game is developed by Obsidian Entertainment, the creators of one of the best Fallout games (Fallout New Vegas) and even the original Fallout creators, Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky, served as the game’s directors.
The Outer Worlds is silly and at times, morbid, but it is filled with personality and allows you to play the game how you want to. I’ve started the game in a variety of different ways, from learning to be a below-average charm and intelligence brawler, to a fast-talking gunslinger, to a pacifist – sneaking around and getting others to do my work for me.
More importantly, the game is just fun, and getting to play it out your own way makes it so much better. It’s one of the many reason’s why that we think that The Outer Worlds deserves the Game of the Year for 2019.
And there you have it, 2019 is all wrapped up for us and we’re looking forward to what 2020 will bring especially now that we’re getting to the end the current gen’s life. With the Series X and Playstation 5 coming this fall, plus titles like The Last of Us Part 2, Hellblade 2, Dreams, and the sequel to Breath of the Wild currently slated for 2020, we got to know what game are you most excited for?
