Sometimes, you need a great performance to sell the game’s story. Whether it’s from a side character who steals the spotlight, expanding from an already large universe, or just holding the entire game on your shoulders for a very, very long walk. Here is the performances we thought deserved some praise in 2019:
Norman Redus as Sam (Death Stranding)
Mads Mikkelsen as Cliff (Death Stranding)
Cameron Monaghan as Cal Kestis (Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order)
Claudia Doumit as Farah Karim (Call of Duty Modern Warfare)
Laura Bailey as Kait Diaz (Gears 5)
AND THE WINNER IS:
Mads Mikkelsen as Cliff, Death Stranding.
Let’s be completely honest here, we could have given this entire list to the cast of Death Stranding. The performances, as well as its strange story and concept, are what pushed us through the game but the one that was the most revealing and well done was Mads Mikkelsen’s Cliff.
It’s hard to talk about Cliff without going into spoiler territory. Mads does get a very big role which he delivers with intensity and heart-filled moments with his connection to Bridges and BB, as both an unstoppable force and a father figure. Mads’ presence on screen is felt and he pulls out his A-game for Kojima’s unique thriller.
