Games based on a pre-existing series from another medium is always a double edge sword. In one case, we want to explore more of the world established in the Comic/Movie/Book but we also want it to be good. If anything that these game taught us this year is that we can be pleasantly surprised at the quality of a licensed product – like Saber Interactive’s World War Z, a Multiplayer shooter based on the mediocre Brad Pitt Zombie flick, or Respawn’s mysterious Jedi Fallen Order, a single-player action title in the Star Wars universe that released just as our faith in the franchise was running thin. Here are our picks for Best Game based on Comics, Movie or books.
Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order
The Walking Dead: Final Season
World War Z
Stranger Things 3
Ghostbusters: The video Game – Remastered
AND THE WINNER IS:
Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order (Respawn/EA)
Battlefront 2 left a bad taste in our mouths thanks to the microtransactions and EA’s business policies in prior and during 2019 has left us cautious about the publisher, but one of their smartest moves was to listen to Respawn Entertainment and let them develop their own Single Player Star Wars Game.
The results – one of the best Star Wars games since the Jedi Knight/Academy/Outcast series. Fallen Order borrows a lot from other great games like Sekiro and Metroid but delivers on something that feels great when playing thanks to its combat system, interesting puzzles and a story that actually feels like it belongs in the Star Wars Lore – a new hope the future of Star Wars Games.
