2016 had a resurgence for JRPG’s after being held back by titles like Witcher 3 and Dragon Age in previous years. 2016 had some solid hits for the genre throughout the year including the highly anticipated Final Fantasy XV, the first time in North America release of 7th Dragon III Code VFD, the always popular a new Neptunia game, and more. These were the best RPGs of 2016.
AND THE NOMINEES ARE…

7TH DRAGON III CODE VFD (SEGA)
DIGIMON STORY: CYBERSLEUTH (Bandai Namco)
FINAL FANTASY XV (Square Enix)
DRAGON QUEST VII: FRAGMENTS OF THE FORGOTTEN PAST (Square Enix)
AND THE WINNER IS…
FINAL FANTASY XV
If we’re going to be honest, the Final Fantasy series had been going downhill for a while, but Final Fantasy XV found the right tone, plus an easy to learn Action RPG system with plenty of room for strategic play. It was a long wait, but once players got their hands on it, it felt like it was well worth it.
