The Fighting Genre seen a solid year thanks to some big names hitting the circuit hard. Our nominees came out of the gates swinging attempting to prove that they were the best, but only one can be crowned the King.
AND THE NOMINEES ARE…
BLAZBLUE: CENTRAL FICTION (Arc System Works)
STREET FIGHTER V (Capcom)
NITROPLUS BLASTERZ (XSeed)
KING OF FIGHTERS XV (Atlus/SNK)
GUILTY GEAR Xrd – REVELATOR – (Arc System Works)
AND THE WINNER IS…
THE KING OF FIGHTERS XV
For the longest time, Street Fighter V would have been the go-to winner for this category, but we look for content for a fighter and King of Fighters XV had everything we expected. A cast of 50 playable characters, balanced for 3 on 3 matches, solid online modes, with a great story mode and “end” boss who cries at puppy movies, all out of the package. King of Fighters XV had reclaimed it’s throne after so many years.
HONOURABLE MENTION: BLAZBLUE: CENTRAL FICTION
I have to write an Honourable Mention since this category was so very close. BlazBlue has always been a favourite in the office but Central Fiction has been the best that the series had to offer. Serving as the conclusion to the Azure arc started back in Calamity Trigger, adding 7 playable characters who were a blast to play and providing well needed tweaks for the current characters. Central Fiction is the definitive version of BlazBlue.
